Hi, 
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how D365 F&O keeps track of inventory once it’s been counted using the ABC counting model to prevent over or under counting? For example if it’s programmed to count A’s = 60 days, B = 120 days, C =180 days, does it use the last date counted or does it start from the date it was received into inventory?

Hi Diane,
Are you using Advanced warehousing? I know as far as locations, they get stamped with a last counted date and time. Try the InventCountJour form from the database and have a developer look up the logic. It basically time and date stamps a count against an item and all the dimensions (i.e. site, warehouse, location, etc.). It should be using the last date counted not the received date.

Andrew is correct, since we are looking at ABC counting, it would  not logically make sense to look at a received date. Imagine that  if it used receive date and you got a receipt every week, then you would be counting every week. It uses the last counted date as Andrew said and what you are really wanting to do is to understand you inventory accuracy. By setting the item to an A value says that you want to check how you are doing and true up inventory every 60 days. And the ABC values let you do this on a schedule and on your most critical items, whether the criticality is availability of the item, or cost controls..

Hi Andrew and Paul,

Thanks for the clarification. I do have another question though? How do we track what’s been counted? Is there a report that we can run that show’s what was counted, when it was last counted and if we hit our mark as far as did we count the “A’s” 6 times this year or did we miss one, or do we just “trust the system” and fly blind? This is all new to us and in our previous system we used a Crystal Report to show us if we missed any merchandise during our cycle counts and how many times they were counted throughout our cycle counting year.

Hi Diane,
Try going to Inventory Management > Inquiries and reports > Counting history
This should get you most of that information but it’s not really in report format nor does it maybe have some of the metric views you want.
For ease of use, you may want to consider pulling this information to a custom SSRS or Power BI report.
