Question for members of this SIG:

What’s your status on D365 for Operations?

      1. Already Live?
      2. Currently upgrading/implementing?
      3. Currently planning for an upgrade?
      4. Monitoring the situation

My company is option #3 — currently planning.  I would love talk to others in the planning process or beyond.  Particularly if anyone is already live on D365 for Operations, I would love to hear about your journey, tips & tricks, gotchas, etc.

I’m sure others would love to hear as well.  Anyone out there already implemented?

We are at #4: “monitoring the situation”.  The main question we are waiting on right now is how much the “on-premise” version will cost.  (The price for the cloud hosted edition is way too expensive to make sense for us at the moment.)

We are planning to upgrade from R2 CU6 and will make a decision on whether to upgrade to R3 now and D365 later, or go directly to D365, within the next month or so.

We are monitoring the situation – #4.  We are currently on 2012 R1 and actively upgrading to R3.  And I’m blogging about it http://www.ERPProjectTips.com!  But my company and many other in our local chapter, Oregon (Portland), would rather have an on-premise solution so waiting to see what Microsoft will do down the road.

We’re “#2,” in the process of implementing. Currently using Dynamics SL with a lot of customizations and existing reporting; about halfway through what we planned as roughly a year-long process to migrate. It is difficult and I’d agree that a good VAR is proving essential.

I only see a small piece of the puzzle (probably the case for almost everybody) so I can’t speak exhaustively about it, and even in my own corner (development & administration, basically the pure I.T. angle) I can’t claim expertise yet.

Your feelings will probably be different if you are coming from a place of existing expertise with AX 2012 development, or at least experience using the Visual Studio/VSTS, but at the risk of understatement: there is a lot to learn if you want to do any of your own development, and it’s not all fully baked yet. It could be excellent some day, things change and improve every few months, but it is not quite there yet. Hence the value of a good VAR, to ease the training and/or own the required development.

Obviously the move to a cloud-/web-based system is a pretty big architecture change, but in the long run, one hopes that it means a much better experience for both end users and admins.

      Hi Kevin,

We have implemented 4 Financial Entities here in Florida and 8 in Central & South America for D365. We are starting Full Operations for D365 here in Florida the beginning of March. It is important to have the right VAR working with you on this. Some of the issues we have so far is Mobility with reference to latency. Another issue is EDI due to mapping not completed yet. I will continue to post my progress.

We are an 80+ store farm and home retailer moving from an in-house system to D365 starting in February.  I would be very interested in any feedback on implementing the system
