Hi all,I am new to AX.Ā We are setting up our budgets for the new fiscal year and I am trying to figure out how to take the numbers from our spreadsheet and import them into the Budget Register?Ā What is the best way to accomplish this task?
Thanks

Excel add-in worked well for ledger budgets.
To keep it simple, we create the header line manually (AX client) and then import the lines.——————————

Hi Thomas,
Do you really need the budget data in AX?
If you don’t make use of the encumbrance features and/or budget control and only need the budget data for comparison with actual data, you can directly import the budget data into your Management Reporter reports.
Best regards,

Yes, I think we need it in AX for reporting purposes.Ā Ā The spreadsheets are pretty large and there is one for each of our 13 reporting departments.Ā If I can get the data into AX, I can use the current reporting formats to run budget versus actual reporting at all levels. Thanks

?We are also new to AX as of July and we are planning to use a budget upload using Atlas to upload our very large detailed budgets

I am curious – how would you import budget data directly into management reporter without it being populated in AX first?

In my opinion you would be best served importing these into Dynamics.Ā Linking a spreadsheet to MR is good for small amounts of data, such as head count, etc.Ā Trying to link an entire budget model would be a nightmare. To import into Dynamics – you can create the budget register entry – then import your spreadsheet via Data Management or via Excel with “Open lines in Excel”
As far as importing into MR – you could attempt to populate the fact tables where these are stored – but I would strongly advise against doing this.

Hi Thomas,If you have less than 10,000 lines to import i would suggest using the AX excel add-in.
Here is a link to how to get that done.
Budget entries import in AX2012
Microsoft remove preview
Budget entries import in AX2012 This functionality is helpful also to copy an existing budget into a new one, since the “copy-budget” functionality, avaialble in AX2009, is no more available in AX2012 due to the major re-design of the budget module and functionalities. I used the Data Import Export Framework module to import budget register entries into AX 2012 R2. I tried to use the excel add-in, but I couldn’t get some account combinations to import.

With Budget Planning features in AX 2012 (and D365FO), you can setup budget templates with multiple numeric columns such as 12 columns for 12 monthly periods or 4 columns for 4 quarterly periods.Ā AX / D365FO will convert data in those template formats to create Budget Register entries.——————————
