I started a D365FO trial through the trials.dynamics.com site.Ā  I found out later that this was a mistake… it doesn’t create an LCS instance when you use this site, and is not the recommended way to start a preview instance for an upgrade from 2012, per this article…

Upgrade from AX 2012 to Finance and Operations – Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365

?Now, when I try to follow the directions in the article, I get a message stating “No need to sign up.Ā  You already have a license for Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations.”Ā  When I click the “OK, got it” button on that page, it takes me to the trial instance dashboard (https://trial-####.sandbox.operations.dynamics.com…)

I checked our MS 365 Admin portal, and there is no Dynamics 365 trial product listed.

I would like to get rid of that trial and start over by following the directions in the above article.Ā  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

      Hi Daniel,

The trial instance resides in a Microsoft tenant, which is why you won’t see it in your admin portal(s).

Your trial instance will expire in due course anyway, and be deleted by Microsoft (I can’t remember exactly, but it’ll be something like 4 weeks, or a period of inactivity, and you’ll start getting emails before it’s finally deleted). After that you’re free to set up another free trial instance at any time, should you so wish.

So I’d say you have nothing to worry about. Just go ahead and get started with the recommended approach you want to follow. Your original trial should cause you no problems and incur no costs or complications.

Wishing you all the best with your upgrade project. Please reach out if you’re in need of any further assistance.

      Kind regards,

      Andrew

Thanks Andrew.Ā  The problem with using this trial instance is that it didn’t create an project instance in LCS, and the next step in the article states to select the methodology.Ā  I can’t do that if there is no project in LCS.

      See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/migration-upgrade/upgrade-overview-2012#select-the-upgrade-methodology

I guess my only option is to work on other things until this trial expires and try again using the correct procedure.

Thanks to Andrew’s hard work and effort to help me resolve this, he found this link, which works!

      https://portal.microsoftonline.com/Signup/MainSignUp.aspx?OfferId=AA972CC1-91DB-4CF9-94A1-4A9163ED50C9&pc=2c50e379-9378-4761-84f9-e328da74e657&dl=ERP_INSTANCE_SKU

In my case, following the link presented a page like this:

I clicked on “Yes, add it to my account” and followed the prompts after that.
This showed up in the list of products in our 365 Tenant:

No new project was created in LCS, but when I started a project I was prompted to select the type, which was different than before:

I selected the “Migrate…” option, and now I can follow the rest of the steps in the Microsoft documentation for working on the upgrade and code analysis.
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/migration-upgrade/upgrade-overview-2012#run-the-upgrade-analyzer

      Thanks again Andrew!
