?We use Enterprise Portal with AX2012.Ā Our vendor’s complain that it is extremely slow and cumbersome to use.Ā Specifically with the RFQ.Ā We have talked with Premier and our network team and have run out of solutions to try.Ā Does anyone use the portal?Ā Have you had similar experiences or better experience?

Hi,I have worked with over 100 AX customers over the past several years, assisting with general AX optimization and BI, and I have yet to find an AX customer who is effectively using EP (except perhaps Corey below – but this appears to be more of an ISV solution).Ā EP is based on SharePoint technology and it is extremely cumbersome from an integration perspective.Ā I am aware of several clients who went down the EP path, only to “shelf” the initiative because of either performance issues, inflexibility or general lack of feature/functionality.Ā Also, finding resources to work on it is difficult, as you need to know both Sharepoint, as well as X++ (the underlying code base for AX2009 and 2012) – very rare.Ā Its a rat hole – and Microsoft themselves acquiesced and the framework was abandoned in the next release with D365.Ā I would suggest you limit your investments in EP.

We recommend using CRM Jetty: Dynamics 365 Portal instead of Dynamics AX. Dynamics 365 portal is better than Dynamics AX as itĀ helps to improve business operations along with customer relations. This provides the functionalities to customize the portal according to your needs. Various other benefits help to make your business grow. This provides effortless self-service support. You can easily customize all the aspects that you want for your portal. It has a unified space for interacting with customers and partners. Provides full data security with Dynamics 365 security model.Ā

We use EP extensively though a different module(actually an ISV Custom module). ĀAs the other poster mentioned the cumbersome part really is a customization exercise to ensure that the EP forms are optimized for the desired process.Ā
While I would not describe our EP as fast,Ā it is acceptable.Ā We have had to make significant infrastructure and set-up investments to get EP to work acceptably.Ā In our case this means:
-Dedicated AOS for EP connections
-Dedicated SQL server for SharePoint/EP
-Multiple IIS Servers to use as EP Front End
-Load Balancer in front of the IIS Servers
-Optimization efforts on the Routers/Firewalls to ensure that communications between the servers is efficient.ĀIt is worth noting that if you plan on migrating to D365 For Operations and Finance Enterprise Edition, Ā then a separate EP is no longer needed as the entire application is web based. Ā

I think our concurrent user count would be similar to that.Ā ĀWhat does your EP architecture look like?Ā

Ā Thank you for responding. Appreciate itĀ
I am not an admin person, so trying to put as best as I can .
- We have three AOS servers, out of which one is for batch processing
- EP service is running on its Dedicated server. The configuration is pointing to both AOS servers
- Two databasesĀ servers, one is for replication.
- one BI server exclusively for reporting.

?We had similar issues but it was related to a different ‘module’. However, we had some customization done within the time sheet that was related to inventory. So employees could enter inventory on the timesheet that was used with a bunch of other special fields indicating location, projects, etc etc. Some of the code was re done and the speed of this was astronomically faster. My point, was there any customizations done within EP? do you have un necessary things turned on that don’t get used?——————————
