What are the recommended best practices for setting up DRA?Ā  Currently I have it setup and running using a service account that was created specifically for this.Ā  I then had to grant this account permissions to send on a user’s behalf when testing.Ā  Is this the correct way to set this up?Ā  Will we need to grant this account the same “send-as” permissions for every one of our users?Ā  Will documents that go out of D365 to external customers show as coming from the service account?Ā  If so what is a typical naming convention for such account?

      Thank you?

A you asking about printing documents to printers or about sending emails? (The later is not related to DRA.)

Miha, you are right.Ā  I had the two mixed up since I was using the same service account for both.Ā  My question is regarding the email setup.

      Thanks

      Hi Alfonso,

Standard SMTP email provider always uses one (service) account, while Exchange email provider uses the account of working user.

The following article explains how to configure Exchange mail server to allow impersonation of other senders.
      https://ax.docentric.com/configure-exchange-to-support-multiple-from-accounts-for-outgoing-emails-in-dynamics-365-for-finance-and-operations/

With Docentric Free Edition you can define multiple SMTP accounts and avoid impersonation.

We have the DRA installed on a local server with the appropriate printers installed.Ā  We run the DRA as a service on this server using D365 service account.Ā  Note that there are certain reports (Most notably checks) that use Adobe Reader as part of the print process.Ā  These reports won’t print through DRA running as a service.Ā  To print checks, we actually don’t use the DRA at all because it doesn’t handle failures like printer jams.Ā  Once it is handed off to the DRA, D365 assumes that it was successful.Ā  If you have prenumbered check stock, it is a pain to unwind.Ā  Instead, to print checks we render them as a pdf file and then the user can print the pdf to whatever printers they have defined locally.

You can also run the DRA as a application on a server, but then you have the potential for the server being rebooted or the session being logged off.

It would be nice if we could configure the DRA to run from a server for multiple D365 environment (Production, Test, etc.). This is not possible, you have to install and configure the DRA on a separate server or desktop for each environment for run it locally on the users desktop.
