Hello,I have been tasked to duplicate one of our cloud hosted environments to a new cloud hosted environment.Ā Is there a best practice for handling the database restore process?Ā Setting up a new empty D365 environment is not hard, I’m just not clear on how to handle the data end of this request.Ā There is a ton of data management documentation for the LCS managed environments but seems to be minimal information regarding this topic.

Hi Dave,
Ā Totally understandable. However, you task is slightly simple if you duplicating the cloud-hosted environement.- Spin your new cloud-hosted from LCS
- connect to same brach, so no issues when importing the database file.
- import .bak file {on your source cloud-hosted box, make DB backup as .bak type}
- Synch using VS or script
let me kwow if any issues, or further questions, please.
Thanks

Thanks Mo!Just so I am clear on the last two steps.Ā I import the source database to the newly created SQL server and run a synch from VS.Ā Do I import the source database as a different database in the new SQL Server?Ā
I will give this a shot and let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Ā You will restore the database (.bak) over the existing one. You will need to stop services & IIS while importing.Once the .bak file import done, start the services and do the synch.
Let me know if any issues, please. Thanks

Hi Mohammed,I have the same question. Could you please be more specific on what services I need to turn off. on IIS i stopped the AOS. Do I have to do more?
All I have tried so far, my restore fails as I dont get exclusive access to the DB.Thanks!

You have to turn off those :
Management Reporter 2012 Process Service
Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations – Batch Management Service
World Wide Web Publishing ServiceOf course you have to close open query in SSMS.Ā If it still fails, use the SSMS Activity Monitor to see what connections are open on Axdb.

Hi Joe,
Please
Stop D365 & IIS
—including MR
Stop SQL server as well. Otherwise you’ll not be able to overwrite the database.
Let me know and will be happy to help
Regards
Mohammad
