Hello UG365,

Does someones know if, in D365, there is a tool OOB to track any configurations changes in the app?
Also we are looking for a report about all changes made by the role System Administrator.

I don’t think there is anything OOB to achieve this per se. Under system admin>database log there is a set up that you can do to maybe achieve this. The database log needs to be set by table and field to be tracked. In my opinion if one wanted to use this then there will be considerable setup needed, as you will need to manually find the tables and fields you want to keep track of.  Maybe worth taking a look into it

The database log from Microsoft is their answer to tracking changes, I will say that configurations within D365FO are spread out by module so there is not just one area to track. There is also no real reporting around the database log once you capture changes, trying to get something like all System Administrator changes is almost impossible without manually going through each change captured and validating if that change was made by a user with the System Adminstrator role.

Also just to point out, there is no way to get all changes done by a System Administrator within AX/D365FO as you would have to manually turn on tracking every table in the system and the performance hit would make the system unusable. Most of the time when this request is made from an auditor they have an SAP/Oracle background where this is possible as the audit trail is built into the system itself as part of every transaction. This is not the case with AX/D365FO, so you have to take a ‘risk-based’ approach to what you are tracking. This means tracking only high risk areas of the system that have an audit requirement and not tracking tables just to track them. Also ensure that you have someone reviewing the audited data.

I will say that I recognize PSP Investments as a Fastpath customer, our Audit Trail tool will track these changes and provide easy to use reporting, and we have an out of box report specifically around showing changes made by any user assigned the System Administrator role. Hi Alex,

I’m a bit confused with your answer.
You said that Fastpath already have report OOB that can track changes made by “System Administrator”.
But we need to activate all Template tracking (Audit Trail), right? And it’s not recommended by Fastpath, so what can we do?

Let me clarify my initial point by saying that the System Administrator Changes report I referred to will show changes made a user assigned the System Administrator role for the changes you are tracking. It will not show all changes made by a System Administrator because of the issues I described in my initial post. You would still want to take the ‘risk based’ approach to what you are capturing.
