We are at the beginning of D365 implementation project and will be using advance warehousing and Data Masons for EDI. I’m trying to find the best solution for automated ASN label creation at pack or shipment close.

My first concern is that some data is pulled from D365 and some is pulled from DM. How do we quickly pull large amounts of data together for the ASN labels? Currently in AX 2012, we have a custom table but we would like to move away from that solution.

The second concern is the automation. We are currently using document routing in AX 2012 and we want that same automation during pack or shipment close.

What are others doing?

I’ve got a client who has customized the standard container contents report for various customer required label formats.  It’s a useful document because it can be automatically generated when the container is closed.  They have a custom process to generate a proforma packing slip for the shipment level documentation.  The packing slip is uses document routing for customer specific formats.  The packing slip transaction is generated with a batch job.  Separating the packing slip document from the transaction has some risks for the two being out of sync, but provides for a little more freedom in choosing when each step is done.

I would be happy to talk to you more about this if you think it necessary. We are integrated with Data Masons and have automated the entire shipment process and print FedEx and ASN labels for shipments directly from D365. This data is integrated with Vantage Point to enable production of ASN’s without further user involvement
