Hello all, 

Has anyone found a way at the customer or fulfillment policy level, to specify that partial reservation & shipment on order lines are permitted, but back orders are not? i.e. we get one chance to fulfill what we can on the order and the remaining quantities should be cancelled.

Prevent partial delivery at the line level expects the full line quantity, which is not what we’re after.

Fulfillment policies don’t seem to cover this scenario either.

The only thing I’ve found so far is to put this customer on a separate release to warehouse batch job with ‘Allow release of partially released orders’ set to No. This wouldn’t prevent any subsequent manual releases of the order though, and would leave all remaining qtys sitting as open lines.

Hi Kirk. 

This is “fill & kill” in my experience.  The SO has 10 lines, you can fully / partially release 9 of them.  You pick as much as you can for all 9 lines, then when you post the packing slip update or invoice update, you tick the “Close” box on the lines.  This will cancel the delivery remainder on any of the 9 SO lines that you are updating.  

Since 1 line didn’t release to warehouse, you need to click the “Cancel” button against the SO header, and it will cancel all lines not yet released to warehouse.  

Alternatively, you can skip the “Close” checkbox process on the lines, run your invoice update, and then click the “Cancel” button from the SO header to cancel the delivery remainder on the 9 lines and the 1 line that never released. In order to do that, you need to make sure any short pick exceptions on the mobile device are flagged to reduce the load line qty.     If you go this route, you’ll want some type of sales pool / flag on the SO header and appropriate selection criteria to figure out what to cancel.    You can do the cancel in mass / against multiple SO’s at once. 

At many clients, we write a modification to handle this. The SO lines get canceled at packing slip / invoice update, and there is a batch job running to catch the stuff that never released to the warehouse.

Thanks, Colby. I like the idea of using the sales order pool to note it on the customer record and default it on the sales order. We don’t have a lot of customers in this scenario, but this should work!
