We recently when live in production with D365 for Operations.Ā
We need to adjustment balances on several customer accounts.Ā We are attempting to use a General Journal selecting the customer account as the main account and a ledger account as the offset.
We are getting an error during posting saying that the offset account must be a bank account.Ā Our functional consultant is recommending us to use the free text invoice or write off journal screen.Ā Neither of these seem as efficient and flexible as entering the customer accounts and a ledger offset account in a single journal batch.
The Journal Name (GJ) does not have a fixed offset account and the Account Type under OFFSET ACCOUNT PROPOSAL is Ledger.Ā
Does someone know a solution to this?Ā It seems very strange to design a flexible interface and then limit what you can do with it.

Hi Mark, Check the method of payment for the customer, that might have a posting restriction of type Bank. Ā If so remove the method of payment from the journal line.
If that’s not it then I’d check Journal control in the journal setup.

I’m on AX 2012 R3, so it may be a little different, but it does sound like you have a Method of Payment defaulting onto that line and the method of payment is set up to require a Bank offset. Simply deleting the default Method of Payment on the journal line details should allow it to post.
