      Has anyone implemented a way to upload Purchase Order details (all the lines including product, variant, quantity) from Excel or CSV? If so, what tools have you been using to do so?

      We are uploading purchase orders using the Excel Add-in.

      It was possible to use also DMF but Excel was easier for our users.

      Our we upload product, quantity, UOM and unit price

      I didn’t know there was an Excel Add-in that we could use for PO lines. Was that out-of-the-box? Did you have to modify in any way? I’ll try to find it. Thanks!

      I believe we needed to have a developer build for us a data entity that we linked into an Excel to build a template.

      The development effort was fairly small

      You can export the purchase order header and line entity from the data management as a data package from the data management workspace. Add your data and thenĀ  import the data package in D365. You can use either the Excel or CSV as the format to export and import the data.

      A word of caution with this tool; it occasionally will lock and block you out of processing; I would practice using it in a Sandbox to be comfortable…Ā  We chose not to use this widespread with our user base do to the fickleness, users generally are not very patient nor accepting of tools that require monitoring…
      And if they make a mistake, our IT Anaylsts would have to spend much time unraveling the ‘mess’

      DMF is our choice of tools for uploading PO Headers and Lines…

      • Using a Sandbox, create a PO (both Headers and Lines)
        • Make sure that you include all fields that are required for your installation
      • Export each to your preferred file format (CSV / Excel)
        • Be sure that you account for the use of commas and Line Feed/Carriage returns in data fields, these will cause havoc
      • Use these Exports as a template for creating your Import…
        • Not all exported fields will be required based on your configuration so you can reduce the number of columns being imported

      Hi Gayla,

      I looked at your profile and noticed it indicated you are on AX 2012. Is this still the case?

      If so, It may change some of advice already given in this thread. For me, in AX2012, I would likely look at a DMF or ISV solution, as I’ve found the Excel add-in functionality to be a little flaky.

      In D365, I would absolutely recommend the Excel add-in, the functionality has been vastly improved on the new platform.
