We are going to move one of our legal entities from a 4-4-5 fiscal year to a calendar month fiscal year starting in 2023. The 2022 4-4-5 calendar would normally end on January 1, 2023 but we would like to have it end on 12/31/2022 instead and start 2023 on solely calendar months. We are using AX 2012 R3. Our other entities use a calendar fiscal year so the calendar itself is already set up. Does anyone have guidelines, advice, or links to information you can share on what we must do or must not do, to accomplish this successfully? Thank you.

I believe you will have to delete the existing calendar year (the one ending in January 1 2023) and create a new one from scratch, ending in December 31 2022.

If you are using the Periods functionality, you’ll probably have to define new ones (P1..P12) to replace the current ones, but otherwise I cannot think on any particular complications (other than ofcourse all your reporting that use Year/Year will be off in 2023…

I am setting this up in a test environment. I have created a new fiscal calendar, beginning with the oldest year in our current calendar and mimicked the years and periods with new fiscal years up until the current year. I created each year as one period then divided periods to the specific 4-4-5 periods. When I created the fiscal years 2018 through 2021, the periods created before division are Period 0 Opening, Period 1 for the full year range, and Period 2 Closing. I then Divided period 1 into the 12 reporting periods. However, when I created the fiscal year for the current year 2022 an additional period was created. Specifying the start date of 12/27/2021 and End date 12/31/2022, I automatically got Period 0 Opening, Period 1 12/27/21 thru 12/26/22, Period 2 12/27/2022 thru 12/31/2022 and Period 3 Closing.

Why do I get an additional period for 2022 than in other fiscal years, and the 2 having shorter date ranges?

I think that’s “normal” behaviour when you create a fiscal year longer than 365 days (I take it this year you had 53 weeks instead of 52).

If you delete the 2nd period the 1st period should auto-adjust to span the full fiscal year.
