      #UnifiedOperations
      #budget

I have configured basic budgets and only use main account and 1 dimension “Product” as my budget dimensions
      dimension values: “”;ABC;DEF

I want to apply budget control configuration.

So far I simply cannot get my head around why D365 will not recognize the budget account entries in the funds available calculation, as soon as I apply a dimension other than the main account.

I have made the proper tickmarks in the funds available setup.

      SCENARIO:
I have made 3 budget account entries and posted them, so the entries are completed:

      5000-ABC Ā  Ā  5000 Ā Ā  01/01/2019
      5000-DEF Ā  Ā  8000 Ā Ā  01/01/2019
      5000- Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Ā  2000 Ā Ā  01/01/2019

Budget control is for the quarter, and I am the budget manager.
Budget control is activated and turned on
Source document for budget control is general journal lines and totals and PO lines and totals

      TEST scenarios:

      1. Budget control on 5000
      GJ Entry:
      5000-ABC Ā Ā  2000 Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā Ā  Budget control = failure, no funds available recognized. Exceeding budget by 2000 – WARNING message*
      5000-DEF Ā Ā  1000 Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā  Budget control = failure, no funds available recognized. Exceeding budget by 1000 – WARNING message
      5000- Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Ā  2500 Ā Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā  Budget control performed, budget funds exceed by 500 (message as expected – OK)

*WARNING: Transaction GL-000001 exceeds the budget funds available for dimension value 5000-ABC by 2,000.00 USD.

      2. Budget control on 5000-ABC
      5000-ABC Ā Ā  2000 Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā Ā  Budget control = failure, no funds available recognized. Exceeding budget by 2000Ā  – WARNING message
      5000-DEF Ā Ā  1000 Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā  Budget control not performed, no warning – OK
      5000- Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Ā  500 Ā Ā  15/01/2019 Ā  – Ā  Budget control not performed, no warning – OK

It seems like I cannot get D365 to recognize the budget entries in the funds available calculation, for any dimensions other than the main account.

I tested the same thing in USMF in Contoso with the same test result.

Compared to MS Docs, I have done all the confiuration
      What am I missing??
      ????

…After some additional R&D on what is behind the budget control, my thoughts kept coming back to the intuition, that the budget funds available calculation was failing to recognize my budget entries

Later entries differed, as some (not all) lines had a green mark on the budget entry lines, and those lines were included in the budget funds available calculation, while the ones without the mark are not. My test in the initiation of this discussion was reflecting budget entry lines where no check had been performed at budget entry stage.

I assume this is due to that the budget control had not been activated when I loaded those entries.

So conclusion is that the budget control must be activated before entering the budget, otherwise the subsequent budget control will fail.
AND user must verify that all lines have a green mark before updating the budget balance

We do have a feature we released last year for R3 and F&O as a hotfix for “budget control data maintenance”. This feature lets you check a budget register entry for budget control in the case of budget control being activated after the entry was posted.Ā

Check it out on LCS issue search for more details.
