Hi,
We have a couple of carriers that are now asking us to provide the freight class/NMFC on the bill of lading. We cannot seem to find a field that would allow us to select that, so we are putting it in the item description on the BOL, however this does not meet their requirements.Has anyone else run into this? Is there a way to do it with base functionality or will this require customization?

Hi Justin,
What version are you on? If you are using the Warehouse management module, the NMFC code can be maintained on the Product/Product master.

Hello
Same field exists in 2012 as well. You can find it by going through Product Information Management -> Products -> Products and then put that value on all items. It exists on the non-released product.
Thanks,Ā

Hi Andrew,
I appreciate your reply, this has helped out quite a bit!ĀWe were able to populate the NMFC, however it still does not show up on the BOL. Is there something else we are missing to get that to display?

Hi Justin,
Yes sorry I forgot to reply about this part. This includes the NMFC on the Warehouse Management Bill of Lading which I think is different from the traditional BOL that you could get from Sales orders or WMSI and WMSII. This can be printed if you have WHS Shipments in Warehouse Management > Shipments > All Shipments. The Bill of Lading can be generated once the Shipment status = “Shipped” and it will display the NMFC. Note: the NMFC assignment to the products is a prerequisite to generate the document, if items are missing NMFC, an error will be thrown and it will not generate the BOL:——————————

Hi Andrew,
Thank you again for the reply. We dont use the WHS shipments. The BOL that we generate areĀ through sales orders and in the Sales and Marketing module. Any idea if there is a way to include the NMFC in those BOLs too?

Hi again,
I do not believe there is any parameter to display the NMFC on this standard form. You would have to modify the report format to include it. A workaround could be to manually add the NMFC in the “Describe items” field of the Bill of lading items form. This isn’t great since it’s manual for each order and prone to errors but it does display the field on the standard document:

That is our current process – we manually enter it into the description, however we are being told now that the carrier will soon start to reject the BOL’s if the class is not in its own column/field.Appreciate the help!
