      Hello All,

I have a quick question regarding the vendor master file. Is there any audit logging turned on in D365 for modifications made to the file? For example, would it be possible to pull a list of all changes (i.e. adding, modifying, deleting records) made to the vendor file for the past 2 years? Please advise. Thanks for your help in advance!

did you look into database logging feature?

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/sysadmin/configure-manage-database-log

You’ll need to carefully consider the performance impact

      Kobe,

The Microsoft answer for your question would be the database log functionality, unfortunately this feature is not really designed as an audit tool and instead was built as a troubleshooting/debugging tool. There are also no out of box reporting for the data you are looking for, so a custom report would have to be created. Finally, as Zvika mentioned, there is a performance concern of turning on the database log.

I wrote a whitepaper around some of the shortcomings/gaps of the database log here: https://www.gofastpath.com/blog/compare-d365fo-database-log-vs-fastpath-audit-trail

Have you considered using the “Proposed Vendor changes workflow”.Ā  It will not help with past changes but moving forward it will provide:
      – An approval flow for any changes being made to the vendor; you can select certain fields that you want included to force the approval process
      – The workflow history will “sort of” provide the history your looking for

We are still on AX 2012 (migrating to D365 next year), but ran into the same need from our auditors and this same issue.Ā  I am conducting functional testing on several pieces related to this that we had our Microsoft Partner develop for us.Ā  This included a new table to capture changes on certain vendor and bank fields, a list page that displays those changes, a vendor changes audit report and a vendor creation report to show who originally created a vendor in which company and on what date.Ā  I was hoping this would be available out of the box in D365, but it sounds like it’s a good thing I had this custom work done now, so we can move it to D365 next year.Ā  Even though there is a cost, at least custom work is one option available.
