      Hi all,

We’ve been using a process external to NAV to handle our physical inventory efforts for years now.  In fact, the one we use was actually originally attached to our old ERP and adjusted to work with NAV instead.  We want to change that though.  As it stands right now here’s what we have:

      • Finished Goods
        • ~10-20 part numbers that are simply counted
        • Between 3000-3500 serialized finished goods items
      • Raw Materials
        • ~4000 part numbers that are lot traced
        • 100 or so part numbers that are serialized

Primary concern here is the Finished Goods, although being usable for both would be nice.  Materials are barcoded.  We’d like to use the barcodes to handle the input (which we do now) and then have the ability to indicate if the part is in stock and store a comment for parts that are not scanned .  Barcode on the parts is ItemNumber|Serial Number

For the non-serialized parts we’d like to be able to scan the barcode to identify the part and put in a quantity.  In the case of lot tracked stuff, this would include lot number (same as before, but lot instead of serial number).   For the very small number of untracked parts we could scan a barcode to indicate the part and enter the number much like we would for the lots.

Bonus points, they’d like to handle it from an intelligent scanner, preferably through the mobile client.  Any suggestions on where to start my search?

What version of NAV are you using? If you’re using at least NAV 2016, you can run NAV from a mobile client and integrate all of the functionalities you speak of. The mobile client is almost the same as the full client.

I should have mentioned.  We’re on 2016.  We’re thinking the mobile client with android or similar scanners, the question is being able to do the work.  Do we need to design some additional screens to deal with this, is there an add-on we should consider?  Basically just looking for a bit of a blueprint for going forward.

There are many mobile add-ons to consider.  For the warehouse specific activities I would recommend Inisght Works product “Warehouse Mobile Data Management” (WMDM).  Especially their Physical Count module based on the counting of Item Tracked Items.

That being said, it requires handheld scanners and strong wifi network access (same as the NAV web client) in the warehouse.  Be sure you consider all aspects of the requirements before you push forward on anything.

Have you looked into ADCS (automated data capture system)?

Here is a guide to setting it up:

Will look at ADCS.  Biggest issue is just figuring out where to start.  Starting discussions on this with our partner today so it’ll move forward.

Sikich has a wireless warehouse product that works with tablet and phone clients on 3 of the supported operating systems.
You can get more info on our web site, and if you like it, have your partner arrange a demo.

We use the Insight Works product mentioned in this thread.  It has been easy to customize and we lot track all raw materials and finished goods (produced) and will use it to lot track purchased finished goods later this year.  The system runs on our Intermec CK71 handhelds with the Windows Mobile OS and has a NAV component as well.  We are currently running NAV 2013, but NAV 2016 will not be a problem.

This system will eliminate our auditor-mandated full physical count requirement at our facilities and gave us the needed inventory controls that we struggled with in the past.

I was most impressed with the low overhead this system required and the ease of customizations with their dev team.

Hi Bryan – you will find that ADCS out of the box does not handle item tracking. We have added that into ACE Warehousing along with many other features that deliver a solution that is ready to use as opposed to having to build something. I’ll be happy to compare and contrast for you when you are ready. I am assuming that you are looking for something more than just taking inventory and if so, please let me know if you would like to discuss in more detail.
