What causes a reservation status of “Surplus” ?

We have three reservation entries for a sales order that total the shipment qty of 780, but I don’t understand why there are two entries of 312 and a third entry of 156 which is marked as “Surplus” and making BC believe that we are short by 156 when the qty available for the lot is greater than 780.

(We are using Whse Shipments and picks with breakbulk – Sales order qty’s are in EA but we pick CS unit of measure.  We also have lot tracking.)

Surplus entries usually come from planning.
Does the item have Reserve set to Never or Optional?
Does the Item have the order Tracking Policy set to None?
These two settings can create all kinds of havoc in the reservation entries depending on how they are set.

      From: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/design-details-reservation-order-tracking-and-action-messaging
In the case of supply or demand that is not allocated, the planning system automatically assigns a reservation status of type Surplus. This could result from demand that is due to forecasted quantities or user-entered planning parameters. This is legitimate surplus, which the system recognizes, and it does not give rise to action messages. Surplus could also be genuine, excess supply or demand that remains untracked. This is an indication of an imbalance in the order network, which causes the system to issue action messages. Note that an action message that suggests a change in quantity always refers to type Surplus. For more information, see the “Example: Order Tracking in Sales, Production, and Transfers” section in this topic.

      Thanks for the reply, Kevin.

Does the item have Reserve set to Never or Optional? — All items are set to OPTIONAL
Does the Item have the order Tracking Policy set to None? — All are set to NONE

We believe there is an issue with Breakbulk.  Between our upgrade to BC 14 and addition of InsightWorks for shipment picking, we are seeing a lot of reservation issue that appear to be related to breakbulk  (most orders are in EA unit of measure, but we pick CS unit of measure).
