This is to the existing MergeTools Easy Security user out their:

Are you using Easy Security with NAV 2018 or Business Central (on-premise)? Ā
Does NAV 2018 remove any of the features, benefits and advantages of using Easy Security?Ā  Does NAV 2018 allow to record to create permission sets for groups of users?

Lastly, because of “Extension” based code instead of C/Side code is Easy Security less helpful?

NAV2018 does have a permissions recorder that I think is easier to use than EasySecurity’s permissions recorder, but I don’t know if the end results are any better or worse.

Your last question is interesting,Ā  I don’t think extensions would make a difference since most of the security is based on access to tables (although you can set up page and codeunit permissions as well).Ā  In any case you are setting up security based on object IDs so I could be wrong, but I don’t think anything would change with EasySecurity.?

      Lewis,
Thank you.Ā  It would be good to know if companies are staying with Easy Security.Ā  Your input is valuable.

?We did not have Easy Security before on NAV2013, and ourĀ permissions were a big mess, really hard to manage and know who can access what.
On our new implementation, since NAV2018 lets us do Groups, I use that and found it was working well for us.
It is way easier to manage. I did not useĀ the recorder, I started with basic rights andĀ add themĀ one by one when needed.

That’s right, NAV2018 also has some functionality to let you see who belongs to what group and what permission sets belong to what group.

I think one important note that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Easy Security’s tools for handling Field Level security and Data Filtering security.
Stock NAV does not have this and we couldn’t do without it.
We use Field Security to allow users to edit some fields on a table/page while other users have access to other fields. And permissions are different for some users depending on which page they are viewing. This is incredibly useful.
We use Data Security primarily to hide specific vendors and their related information. We created a field called “Confidential” on the vendor record. When this field is checked, only specific users are allowed to see their vendor record or purchase documents. Most employees don’t even know this field exists (thanks to field security) and they don’t know the confidential vendors exist because they’ve never seen them or any of their documents.

Yes, NAV2018 has a few more features that previous version, but EasySecurity adds even more bells and whistles – Field Level, Data Security, Restore Points, etc.?

      Greg,
Thank you as this is helpful.Ā  Additionally, is your company using Easy Security with NAV 2018?Ā  And are you on-premise?

      Again thank you.

      Sincerely,

On-prem NAV 2016. But when we upgrade, we will continue using Easy Security unless MS provides some other type of Field & Data security solution.
