      Good morning, Group:

I’m a PM for Columbus Vegetable Oils, and a former Inventory Manager. I am always looking for ways to help manage our inventory and make things better for the production, warehousing and shipping departments.

One of the things that I noticed was that base NAV didn’t seem to handle inventory aging well, so I poked at my VAR to see what they could do based on some parameters I gave them. The issue we had was that we use a variety of lot codes because we have different types of food manufacturing going on.

After a bit of back and forth, we came up with the following…

Location Code Item No. Zone Code Bin Code Lot No. Born on Date Partial Quantity Qty. (Base) Pallet Size
      OAKTON 26024 LAB SAMPLES 010417-0950 1/4/2017 1.00 1.00 50
      OAKTON 26024 PARTIALS J004B 010417-095 1/4/2017 39.00 89.00 50
      OAKTON 26024 RECEIVE QC03 111516-7658 11/18/2016 1.00 51.00 50
      OAKTON 600141BB D-DRESSING 2331B A2111617S 4/29/2017 0.00 108.00 0
      OAKTON 600141BB D-LAB DL01 A1109517S 4/18/2017 0.00 55.00 0

I had them add an inception (Born on Date) date from the warehouse ledger, so that we could generate an aging report by using receipt entries, production entries, warehouse journal entries, and so on, to determine when the item was first entered into our system. From there we can either use JET or dump it into plain old Excel to sort by the “Born on Date” for our Aging.

Eventually, we will begin the task of setting up the expiration functionality, but this was a quick way to tackle multiple departments, that had different expiration parameters, all in one report.

If you have any other suggestions, or favorite reports, I would love to see them

      Thanks,
      Paul

      Paul,

First, not understanding why you need an extra date. Why would the Posting Date not be sufficient to say when the Lot was created?

Nice job Paul, love that “inception” date.
I solved something similar by using Lot. No. Information card. I added that “inception” date so I could keep track easily on manufactured items (I am in the food industry also). I poked somewhere in cu22 so everytime we purchase ingredients or manufacture goods, a Lot No. information card is created automatically.

Something you may know is the “Fresh level” which is something like the inverse of the aging. We show the fresh level in every lot we ship. The Fresh level are the percentage of days from shipping date to expiration date based on whole expiration period.
