      Hi,

Does anyone have any experience and recommendations on how to improve the performance of NAV 2017 running in an Azure hosted environment?

We are running Dynamics NAV 2017 and have it integrated with Accellos One (version 65.03) warehouse management system. We also have a custom integration to our web site running through a NAV buffer table, and a number of NAV-X add-ons. I am interested in any advice or guidance that could help us reduce deadlocks and improve system responsiveness.

      Thanks,
      Lars.

      Hello Lars,

      Our database techs say:

SQL Azure is slower on NAV than traditional SQL Server.  Depending on the NAV installation and customization, the extent will vary.

So scaling your SQL Azure environment is very critical.  You need to look and see what level your VM is set at.  these levels are by Basic , Standard (S0 to S3) and Premium (levels P1 and above) in Fixed and Elastic pool options.

For Fixed Standard level S3 and Premium level P1 provide comparable performance to a normal SQL Server installation.

Id you have many applications running, then elastic pools may be relevant.  Typically this will only make sense in a multi-tenant environment where elastic pools allow sharing of DTUs (performance units).

I agree with Liesa on this and just want to add a couple things to clarify/confirm:  we have encountered similar issues where ramping up the SQL Azure service resolved the performance issues.  Just be aware that this will have an impact on your monthly Azure hosting fees, and this difference may be significant (as a relative percentage of what your current monthly hosting fees have been recently).
