We have been upgrading our NAV from version 2009 Classic to 2016. We were almost done and we are in our training process right now. However, all of sudden in our training sessions, we are getting some deadlocks and frequent NAV server crashing issues. We reached out to Microsoft, followed all their recommendations, upgraded to the latest build of 2016, but still, the problem exists.
Has anybody faced similar issues? Can somebody please guide or advise what to do. Thanks a lot in advance for your time.——————————
Thanks,

Deadlock or blocking chain? For issues like this, I have diagnosed root cause before with event viewer, activity monitor, and repeatedly running sp_who2 while the process is being executed in a test environment. I would recommend trying things like this if you haven’t already.
In my experience, crashing the service often results from a very large number in a custom process that normally encounters smaller numbers. For example, we have custom code for adding items to a package which works fine until someone tries to process an order for 17,000 items. Do you have custom code that correlates with the crashes?

Are the crashes RAM related?Did you upgrade reports, if so, how did you go about this?

1) See if you can find out if it is the service tier or sql server that is causing the crash. (Which server has the CPU pegged?)
2) Consider upgrading executables only to NAV 2017 where there is a Database Locks functionality screen available from object designer
3) Are people hitting Ctrl E (export to Excel) which is causing the crash?Ā This only happens if the Page is a based on a Temporary table.Ā Known bug fixed in NAV 2017 and maybe later version of NAV 2016.
4) Check the change log to see if that gives you any hints of something that was happening at the time.
5) Turn off change log to see if it makes a difference.
6) Turn on full C/AL tracing and trace what is going on (experienced developer needed for this)
7)Please post a screenshot of your service tier setup.Message me and maybe I’ll have some more ideas (I’ll be at NAVUG as well).Ā We have upgrade from NAV 2009 R2 to NAV 2016 and have worked through many issues so maybe I can assist.

Rameez,
It would help to have more information on your configuration. Number of users? Size of database? Number of service tiers? Add-on packages? Degree of customization? Hardware?——————————

Please indicate further information to assist:
1. NAV version fully on: Client/ Server.
2. Windows: Client/ server environment.
3. Specific user id? have you tried another user id?
4. Where specifically in Nav are you and what are you doing.
Example: I’m in the Customer list and when I do find it crashes?
Example: I’m posting one order US with 5 detail lines. etc.
Example: I running customer statement with 4 specific customer with these options and etc.During an upgrade I found that data End-user COPY/PASTE brings over bad corrupted stuff to NAV 201# which causes a user to get kicked out. In NAV 2009 it was good and no issues reported.
Good luck.
