Has anyone ever had the need to merge multiple items into a single item?Ā  Currently on NAV version BC14.

Are you looking for an out of box functionality, I don’t believe it exist. You can take a look at how the “merge duplicate” function and possibly copy it.

Many years ago, with a few caveats, in a version long forgotten, (NAV 2009), I used the following process to merge about 20 Items.
I deleted the Item number I wanted keep, (for reference purposes let’s call it A.Ā  Then I went to the Item I wanted to merge, (for reference purposes let’s call it B), and renamed it “A”.Ā  It renames all places where the “B” had been the item of record and it reconnects all the places where “A” was blank.
All of the Item numbers I merged had the same costing method (FIFO) and none of the Items I eliminated, (the Item “B’s”), had quantities on hand.
The renumbering should not impact the Item Application Entries, but I would not consider merging Items with a Costing Method of Average.Ā  This should be tested in your sandbox environment, and you should run the “Inventory Valuation” and “Inventory To GL Reconcile” Reports before and after your renumbering for the following time periods: 1) earliest date of a ledger entry for the merged item, 2) last closed financial year, 3) current period.
If you are satisfied with the results, and you want to do this in production, it must be run when everyone is out of the system.Ā  Depending on how many transactions are tied to the Items, the renumbering can take a long time and lock tables.Ā  Never try to delete more than one Item at a time.Ā  You may not get everything merged in one night.
