Issues trying to install BC 19 (2021 Wave 2) Demo
Posted by Lewis Rosenberg on April 16, 2022 at 11:11 pm-
Hello Everyone,Ā
I am looking for help trying to install the BC 19 (2021 Wave 2) Demo (on premise).
I am running Windows 10 Pro andĀ SQL Server 2016 Express.
When I attempt to install BC19 Demo, I get the error message:Ā Ā The version of the SQL Server instance ‘BCDEMO’ is not supported.
I downloaded SQL Server 2019 Express, but when I try to install it, I get an error message:Ā Oops…Ā A required file could not be downloaded.Ā This could mean that the version of the installer is no longer supported.Ā Please download again from the download site.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Try uninstalled SQL Server Express 2016, then install SQL Server Express 2019. After that, run the BC demo installation. This worked on Server 2019, not sure about Windows 10.

Are you just needing a demo environment for a single user to play with? Otherwise, I would suggest using Docker.
If it’s something different for an entire org to play with, try Andrew’s recommendation.——————————

I’m looking to install a local demo environment for myself like I have done with pervious versions.Ā It allows me to see what is new before we get there and also helps me present at Summit on a current version.Ā I am not a partner nor am I a developer, so I am mostly unfamiliar with Docker.

I did the following to get BC20 Demo (BC 2022 Wave 1) installed locally.
(1) Uninstalled SQL 2016 Express
(2) Moved the BC20 download files off of my network folder and to the root of my C: drive and installed from there.——————————
