We are using “Basic Warehousing” (NOT “Directed Pick and Put-Away”) in NAV 2016.  NAV only allows two choices for “Default Bin Selection” – Fixed Bin or Last-Used Bin.  We do not want Fixed Bins, but we do want “Default” Bins so that NAV will suggest where to put an Item.  We cannot use Last-Used Bin because that is more often than not the To-Production, From-Production, or Shipping Bin and not a regular Warehouse Bin.

As a result, we must routinely go to the Bin Contents page and clear the “Fixed” checkbox that NAV automatically sets.  Ideally, we’d like a third option where NAV sets the “Default” flag if there is none for the Item, but does not set the “Fixed” flag.  Lacking that, is there an easy way to prevent NAV from setting the “Fixed” flag?

Mike,

Fixed and Default are 2 separate settings in Bin Content. You can set a bin as Default for the item without selecting Fixed.

To do what you are asking, define the bin in Bin Contents and set it as Default for the Item. I am not sure what you are doing that would be setting the Fixed flag automatically. Can you explain? Do you have a customization or ISV solution that may be doing this for you?

Sorry…   I should have been more clear…  

We understand that Fixed and Default are two separate settings on the Bin Contents Record….    The setting I’m talking about is on the Warehouse FastTab of the Location Card that controls how a Bin Content Record gets created when an Item is first transacted into a given Bin…   If the Item has no existing Default, we’d like NAV to set the Bin involved as the Default without also making it “Fixed”
