How do you set-up an item that has an expiration date?
is it in the item card set-up portion where the expiration date is entered?
We are currently using NAV 16

      Roberto,

For items with an item tracking code, an expiration calculation can be specified in the item card, but you may also specify the expiration date on the item tracking lines. In typical setups I’ve seen, the expiration calculation is used to assign expiration date automatically to produced items and the expiration date is entered manually on the item tracking lines for purchased items. But, you can open up item tracking lines and enter an expiration date manually for production orders. As well, if an item has an expiration calculation and you receive the item without specifying an expiration date, the expiration date will be set according to the expiration calculation.

There is also the associated “FEFO” picking method for pick by expiration date. You may be interested in the help document Picking by FEFO

      ?Roberto

Be sure to test this in your version as well.

I have seen instances where if the Item Card has an expiration calculation and then you try and enter the expiration date manually on the item tracking lines, NAV gets confused and doesn’t know which date to use. I have seen that for items you need to choose one solution but not both meaning, you cannot have an expiration calculation on the item card but then sometimes manually add the expiration date.

You need to either set it up on the item and let NAV assign it or manually assign it in the item tracking.

      Hi Jenn,

Do you remember specifically in what situation NAV required

You need to either set it up on the item and let NAV assign it or manually assign it in the item tracking

      ?

I have entered many specific expiration dates on item tracking lines for lot-tracked items with an expiration calculation field set and have never seen an issue. Is this a particular version, configuration, customization, and/or customized version of NAV that has this issue?Ā

      Thank you,
