We have a few clients that are now looking to implement an add-on for document management. We have found a few, ZetaDocs, DataHaven and Altec. Does anyone have any input/experience with the 3 listed or different applications to recommend?

They have been using NAVXtender and found it is not working out for them.

    Thanks!

What version are they on? The more recent versions of BC have document attachments now included. If an earlier version, I have used ZetaDocs in the past and found it easy to use. Drag and drop functionality works well. I don’t have experience with the others.

Be sure to ask about pricing related to document volume. I was involved in a project some years ago and found that we had to pay for numbers of documents attached per month.

I used Zetadoczs in the 09 version however it left a lot to be desired. Seeing as that was over a decade I’d assume it’s gotten much better. What version of NAV/BC are they using? What feature set are they looking for? In newer versions you can build a file share and link to documents in there.

    Hello Paul,
What is not working about NAVXtender? What features are they needing?

    Paul,

Great question and this one I can go on for hours… Over the decades of having Document Management ISV’s and now APP’s, I have trimmed my go-to list to two:

    1. Continia Document Capture/Output/Approval Workflow – https://www.continia.com/global/

    2. Datahaven – https://www.datahaven4dynamics.com/

My decision on which to lean towards are solely based on requirements, volume, and functionality. I would say check both out and get a demo.

    Thanks,
    Steve

To answer a few of the questions which have been asked:

    – The clients are NAV 2018. Still using the RTC versus the web interface.
    – Regarding the Xtender product, I believe the two main issues were not always working and not the best searchability inside of NAV.

ZetaDocs capture works great for dragging and dropping in 2018 but I do not believe it has the ability to “search” for documents – you would have to go find the nav document and then look at the attachments.

Continia is a great option for for storage and searching. They do have the option for drag and drop but that bypasses the OCR service and then you do not have the search ability. The bonus with Continia is you can have it creating NAV documents from the customer or vendor documents.

We used to use Zetadocs when it was free. When they wanted us to pay, we began looking for another free option to simply drag/drop pictures/pdfs/emails into the “Links” section of any NAV document. Thankfully we found NavXtender which is free and works excellent. Thank you Insight Works!
As has been mentioned, there is no searchability or OCR. But if you just want drag/drop…NavXtender works great. We used it in NAV2016 and now in BC14 on prem.

Data Haven has risen to the top from what we have seen from our customers vs Zetadocs seems to be struggling with the BC Saas environment.
Data Haven has very robust functionality and features and the cost was lower than most customers expected.

We have used KwikTag with our NAV 2016 for a number of years. While not perfect, it works pretty well internally as well as for our external auditors.

We have a Quality Department requirement that forces us to use a secured SharePoint repository for documents linked to NAV/BC. When we were on NAV, we used ZetaDocs, but they did not have an extension available for BC. When we upgraded to BC 14, we switched to Clever Docs. While we have had some issues, they have been really quick to fix them. I am happy to reccomend them. https://www.cleverdynamics.com/
