Default bins

  • Posted by Karen Vernon on June 30, 2023 at 11:58 am

    Hello,

We use Advanced Warehousing. We have items set up in Bins and the default box is checked for the Bin/Location we want the item to be pulled from.

The system is pulling quantities from other Bins/Locations rather than using the default Bin.

    Has anyone run into this?

    Thanks!

    Karen

It may have to do with some other setups. Is your location set up as directed put-away and pick? I just read that for Directed Put-away and Pick locations, you should use FIXED BINS instead.

Agree with Lewis that other setting may be impacting this. One issue to remember is that outbound entries will generally use FIFO to know which inbound entry to pull from regardless on the bin. Pick tickets may be using this as well.

    Hey Karen,

We’re on NAV2017 and one of the things we fight is the difference between the bin ranking and the bin number. We do not use fixed bins but I can offer a little insight.

After FIFO, without bin ranking, our system apparently looks at the highest numbered bin for first priority, and our higher number bins are near the ceiling.

    Hope that will help.

We also use Bin Ranking. We pick from floor level and replenish lower bins from above so floor bins are ranked as 500, above that is 400, etc. We rank bins we do not want to pick from as 0 (lowest priority).
