Copy General Journal Entries from the Chart of Accounts

Like the title says, I’m looking for a way to copy journal entries from the Chart of Accounts. I usually go into the COA and look at all my entries in the GL for each Account in there. If I have to copy an entry (i.e. reverse a previous and re-create it to the correct amount) then it’s quite the hassle to copy the journal number, go into Posted Journals, filter by that (which there should be a search function in this instead of filters – but that’s another problem) and then Copy Journal Register. I’d rather have a “copy journal” in the three dots next to the posted entry in the GL. Is there no way to do this? If not, are other people interested in this? I would create a suggestion in the MSFT365BC ideas.

What not just use the Reverse Transaction from the general ledger entries screen?

Hi Kim, I’m not looking to Reverse the transaction. I’m looking to copy the entry and do it again, potentially with a different amount and/or date.

I used to be able to do this in the ERP Workday that I used to use…and SAP…and a few other systems.

If you have enabled the system to record Posted General Journal then you can create the same journal back with the option in there.

Hi there, do you mean “in there” from the Chart of Accounts or in the Posted General Journal listing? I can definitely do it from the posted gen journal listing, but not from COA.

A slightly-less-hassle way of doing this is

    Select the entry

Find entries… (Keyboard: Ctrl-Alt-Q. Unless you entered General Ledger Entries from a totaling row in which case Ctrl-Alt-Q doesn’t work for some reason)

Click Posted Gen. Journal Line. (Keyboard: Shift-F3, “Rel” Enter, “Post*” Enter, Tab x 5, Enter)

“Copy Selected Lines to Journal…” (Keyboard: Alt, Release Alt, C)

This way, you don’t have to copy the Document No., go to Posted Journals, etc.

Faster, but not as fast as an extension that added a button would be. I could write this, but I make no promises as to when… at the very least, I added it below 27 other small extension ideas.
