      ?

      Good Afternoon,
We are havingĀ problems to connecting to the SQL Server through the Dynamics NAV 2018 Development Environment. We have Dynamics NAV 2018 running and able to change different companies. I can even make an ODBC user DSN connection the NAV server. In Dynamics NAV Development I can input the Server Name and username and passwordĀ with Database server Authentication but it still will not show the Database name.
Is anyoneĀ experience this same problem? Thanks for your help.

Check SQL user permission.Ā  To work with a particular Microsoft Dynamics NAV database through development environment, grant the user db_owner role on the database in SQL Server Management Studio.Ā

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

      Hello Cynthia,
Thanks for getting back so soon. I try the grant the user db_owner role but still nothing. There is one thing when I open the Dynamics NAV Development then open Database and when I enter the name of the Server that is has the database on. I click on the up arrow in the box it comes up blank under the Available Microsoft SQL Server. Is there something we miss when install the Dynamics NAV? Thanks again for your help.

Is this a demo database? Have you tried using Windows Authentication when connecting?

      Kevin,

Verify your DB information by opening you NAV Administration Tool and select the Instance which you are connected and view the Database Server, Instance, and Name.Ā
Are you connecting to the same DB server, Instance?

I agree withĀ Suresh Kulla, make sure several factors.
Is the Windows machine visible to the Domain.
Is SQL visible to other apps (Jet report), etc.
Have you tried running it from the Server where the SERVICE is installed?
Last make sure you are connecting to the right SQL box, use the full name \DomainSQLbox.
Last try accessing via a SQL Admin to see if you can actually have accessibility (Log into windows with this account) and confirm.Ā
Does the Server Name appear when you do a lookup (Open Database)?

      Good luck,Ā

Can you post a picture of the screenshot in the Dev. Environment on how you’re trying to connect?

      Kevin –Ā

I had the same issue when attempting to connect to my new NAV2016 database. It was one of these two resolutions:

      • Make sure that Windows Firewall (if turned on) is configured to let the proper SQL and NAV server ports through.
      • Make sure your SQL Server Browser service is running.Ā

Below is a link to a help document from MSDN:
      https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd983822(v=nav.90).aspx

Let us know if either of these help!
