I’ve just started using Configuration Packages in Nav 2013 as we are importing a new product line. Items imported without a problem, but when I try to import the comments, I don’t get an error with the package. I applied the package, and it ran without a problem, but when I go look at the comments, there are no comments. The Date and Code imported though. Are there character it doesn’t like or am I missing something else?

      Excel File

      Here’s the result

After you imported the file into the package did you drill into the No. of Package Records and see if the Comment field was populated like this:

I am guessing it is not which makes me think it is something to do with your xml schema file that was created when you created the excel file initially. Ā

Based on your answer I’ll try to figure out what your next step should be to solve this.

This is the result I’m getting:
Even though there are Comments in the Excel File, they are coming in blank.

      ,

I ran a test in #NAV2013R2 and it worked fine.

I noticed that your Excel file has column headings on row 1.Ā  Did you first Export from NAV to create the Excel template or did you create that Excel file manually?

When I Export from NAV to create the Excel file, the Configuration Package and table number are listed in row 1 and my headings are on row 3 and a table is created in Excel for the data.Ā  So, the issue may be with your Excel file as Jason mentioned.

Try using RapidStart to export from NAV to Excel first, then manipulate the data in Excel without changing the structure/format of the Excel file and then import it back.

Actually, I grabbed the wrong screenshot. I did export first, then copied the data that a co-worker had prepared (the file I screenshot) into the exported file.Ā

      Here’s the actual screenshot.

Attach the spreadsheet to this thread if you are willing (or email me) and I will try it in my NAV.Ā  You can remove all the data from row 4 down but leave the table intact.Ā  I think in the end you just need to export to Excel again and get a new template.Ā  There is a Schema file behind the scenes that you don’t even see that is responsible for which columns are imported.Ā  For example you could change the word Comment in cell C3 to anything you want and when you import from Excel it will still work.

Thanks Jason. That’s actually what I did yesterday. (I thought I had responded, maybe I typed up a response and never submitted it :). Anyway, I re-exported and copied the data over again. When I imported, it worked.Ā

      Thanks again for your help.

Do a quick test, export some comments to the template.
Manually add 5 line with your own comments. (Do not copy/paste)
Import it and see if it comes into the holding area.
If it does, you may be having hidden characters in your text file.

try coping a few to notepad, remove leading and trailing characters.

try again, if those come in, you have your issue.
      Good luck.
