Hello teamWorking in Business CentralĀ (AU Dynamics NAV v.14, on premise)
Have created a new profile Study DirectorĀ (copy of Project Manager)
Now wish to go in and configure the profile so that future users of the profile will only see the elements we wish them to see. (edit Ribbon and Navigation etc)I should be able to achieve this by creating a short cut with the following target:
However, each time I run it, I receive the error that I do not have access to the TableDataĀ “Profile” : ReadĀ Ā
To confirm:Ā I am a SUPER user and:
I have checked the Tables available to me and can confirm that the Table: ProfileĀ Ā is on the list and I have full access. Can anyone recommend any solutions.Ā Is there something simple I am missing.
Presently I have assigned a Test User to the Profile too. Thanks in advance for your expertise,

This may sound simple but have you tried creating a permission set with the Profile tabledata and read permission, giving yourself that permission set and see what happens?

Yes actually I did try this approach earlier in the week and it also failed. It’s really perplexing.Ā Ā We run V14,Ā I wonder if it has something to do with the version?
kind regards

It worked for me in BC 14 (on prem). Are you running tenants?Ā
Here is what I did:
- In BC 14 (NA) I have created a new Role Center called TEST by coping and existing one, using the DEV client and Object Designer, and saved it as Page 50000.
- I created a new “Profile” in the Role Tailored Client area
- I created a shortcut for the client with the following string.
- “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central140RoleTailored ClientMicrosoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe” -configure -profile:”TEST”
- The shortcut opens the Windows Client in Configuration mode.Ā
- I am setup as SUPER user
- I did get an error when trying the shortcut before I created the new Profile.
Questions
- How did you copy the Role Center?
- What page number did you assign to the copy?
- Is that page number in your license?
- When you setup the Profile what scope did you select? System worked for me.
Hope this helps.

Hello AndrewThanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed reply, I appreciate it.Ā Please bear with me as I’ve only been using the software for a very short time.Ā We are still heavily reliant on our partner to provide answers and solutions and manage technical aspects of the software. However they can’t give me an answer on this one.
To answer your questions
How did I copy the profile.Ā Ā
I am a super user and navigated to the Profiles page at:Ā Departments/Administration/Application Setup/RoleTailored Client/Profiles
From here I chose copy profile and copied a profile called Project Manager, giving it a new name called Study Director.
I left the ‘new profile scope’ field as “System”What page number did you assign to the copy?
I didn’t see any option to assign a page number.Ā I only see Role Center ID “9015”
Can you advise how I would assign a page number – should I be navigating elsewhereIs that page number in your license?
I would have to put this question to our partner, unless there is somewhere I can check this myself? When you setup the Profile what scope did you select? System worked for me.
I chose the scope as System as well. Here is my target :
C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central140RoleTailored ClientMicrosoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe” -configure -profile:”STUDYDIRECTOR”
In your reply you stated that you created a new role center usingĀ using the DEV client and Object Designer, and saved it as Page 50000.
It’s possible that only the partner has the capability to do thisĀ – however, I would like to be able to. Where would I gain access to the DEV client.Ā Āthanks and regards

Have you tried to run it as ADMIN rights. looks like permission error.
Please also check the Windows Event Viewer to see what the real message is about.
Are you licensed for the object range?Good luck.
