Here’s a fun Dynamics NAV tip to help you find what you’re looking for just a little faster.

Have you ever looked at the sequence of the Advanced Filter Fields and wondered about them?

I found myself drilling down the field list on the Item Tracking Entries page to filter on the field I needed (Remaining Qty.) and having to repeat the process every time I visited the Item Tracking Entries page – sometimes more than once in a day.

I found that the sequence of the Advanced Filter fields matches the sequence of the columns from left to right on the page.   Simply change the column sequence on the page and you’ll change the field sequence in the advanced filter list. Also when you add or remove columns from the page, that will affect the field-filter list.

To change the column sequence on a page (left to right), right-click anywhere on the column headings and select Choose Columns…  Select the column/field name you want to move and use the Move Up  button to move it to the left and Move Down to move it to the right.

When you are finished click OK (note: you may need to close and re-open the page).  Now your top to bottom list of columns will match the filter field list top to bottom and your page columns left to right.

That is a great tip!  I would take it one step further, and mention the ability to “Save View As”, so that you can quickly access the filtered view, with any new/updated data, without having to re-enter all your filters.

Now you have a one click option to see refreshed data.
