We have BC 14/On Prem, with plans to go to cloud Aug 2023.

We are a manufacturer with wholesale distribution:  we pick/pack/ship skids of orders:  boxes of glaze.    

We don’t currently have barcoding for the warehouse.  We’d like to be able to zap zap zap and 3 boxes are now picked for the order.

What are the prereqs to implement barcoding?

1.  BC 14:  Software settings:  we have “bin mandatory” turned on.  That is the only “warehousing” setting in use.
2.  Additional software/modules:  do we need to buy additional software?
3.  Scan-guns:  we’d like smart scan guns (similar to an android phone), so that Shipping Employees can see the order, watch the open items decrement as they scan and pick, etc.

Thoughts/suggestions:  Please let me know!

You should have a discussion with your partner about this to get the best advise for the best fit for your operations.

There are many add-ons for NAV-BC for handheld scanning.  A couple that come to mind are from Lanham Associates and InsightWorks.

What ever path you choose, make sure you spend a lot of time discussing and documenting your requirements, especially any current issues with inventory (accuracy), picking, process exceptions, current challenges, etc.  Make sure that the solution vendor understands every situation and can answer how their solution can or cannot be used to handle each scenario.
