Does anybody use background posting of Sales Orders/Purchase orders? Does it actually help alleviate table locking? We have multiple users posting as well so we would need to ensure invoices are printed to the correct printers.

      Thanks,

We do not use background posting as we have a job that runs each night to post our invoices off hours.

I do not believe that it alleviates table locking at all.  The posting of an invoice whether it is by you, or a background process spawned by you, won’t reduce the number of table locks.  Regardless the invoice needs to post and will lock the same tables.

I think what people are trying to say is that background posting frees up your session from being used while you are posting.  So you can do other tasks while posting is happening on the service tier.  Before this functionality you would see a window that shows you the progress of posting and you could not use NAV until it was done.  Background Posting makes this go away and you can still work while it is happening.

Yes, this does avoid many lock ups.
I would suggest setting it up and make policies on what should/shouldn’t be posted by the nightly run.
Prepare for issues that will occuring during nightly posting.
You can set up printing as well.
When you do and want to print, go to PRINTER SELECTION and setup the Report Id# and USER (Job queue account), this will designate the printer you wish to send them too. (Very helpful)
A 3-60 second delaying is horrible if users are getting locked up.
      Good luck.

Geovanny I do not think there will be any less locks issued by doing background posting.  But posting off hours when there are fewer people on the system is the first and foremost #1 tip!

Your best bet is to do just that, set the Job Queue that is processing background posting to only run off hours.
