We are considering implementing WMS and ADCS scanning functionality in NAV. We are not planning to buy an add-on but want to utilize the NAV’s out of the box feature. I went through Microsoft documents and people’s discussions but cannot find a demo of how ADCS scanning works in real shipping and receiving activities.

Does anyone know how exactly ADCS works in NAV? For example, after a user scans the item barcode, will it update the item and quantity in pick or put-away document but a user must post the document manually? What documents ADCS can support? 

If anyone use this base nav feature, I would appreciate if you can please provide me with your feedback.

Hi John,
I have implemented out-of-box NAV inventory and warehouse so can answer your questions on ADCS and NAV.
you can set it up both ways:
1. To update the item journal but not post it or
2. To post the journal and update inventory as you scan the item barcode.

The posting does cause some delay depending upon the connectivity but we were able to get it to work with little to no complaints. It was more important to have inventory updated and posted for us.

Please work with your NAV partner and they should be able to guide you.
One Suggestion: pick the right scanning device. We struggled with configurations in the beginning until found the right match.

Thank you Meenakshi. Do you mean that I can setup either ways by configuring the Miniforms (or it requires to modify Codeunit in order to post by NAV)? Regard to scanning device, would you be able to share the name of device you have implemented? We are on NAV 2015.

For posting to take place automatically, you will need to do modifications to the codeunit. A small one but yes.
