If you have not heard about the Dynamics NAV / 365 Tenerife roadmap, trust me, you do not want to miss this opportunity. We are at one of those watershed moments in the history of NAV, and you’ll want to know what’s ahead.

In case you missed it in the pre-holiday rush, Microsoft is showing the just-released Dynamics NAV 2018 next Wednesday, January 10. To register: https://dcinavugportal.cobaltsaas.com/Meetings/Registration/MeetingDetails.aspx?mid=03c43df1-e3bc-4034-9736-820570e29753

We’re very fortunate with this exclusive look at this exciting version, so let’s show them the NAVUG love and overwhelm them with our turnout. If you’d like to read up a bit, here is a blog post from James Phillips about the latest release: https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/2017/12/01/announcing-the-general-availability-of-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2018/

Dynamics NAV and Dynamics NAV Finance & Operation for Business are 2 separate products operating in the same platform.

Be aware of what you’re looking at when looking at demos online.

Alex is right… until this spring, whereafter the shared code-base will mean that the two will be one.

While it’ll be sad to see that in a few years the product name “Dynamics NAV” won’t be used anymore (I’ve grown attached to that name), but very excited to see the future of what is now known asĀ Tenerife.

Personally, I’m fine with abandoning the name “Dynamics NAV” as long as we can call it something that sounds better. I would suggest “Navision.”

That’s actually not true based on what Marko told me. Dynamics NAV will be around can still can be sold individually on premise or on the cloud. This will be their plan unless they announce otherwise.

D365 F&O, Business Edition is a completely separate product as part of their cloud initiative.Ā

There are a lot of false rumors out there regarding this. I was confused for the longest time until I reached out to Marko for an official comment.

This means that companies that bought NAV will continue to have updated version of NAV for the foreseeable future.

      Hey Alex,

The messaging was different from Trevor, the MS Partner Architect we liaise with. He had also mentioned during the “What’s New” sessions in CollaborateCanada that the moniker “NAV” will be dropped, but theĀ spiritĀ of an on-prem NAV will continue.

From my understanding, there will be NAV 2018 R2 (possibly even 2019), but after that it’sĀ whatever TenerifeĀ is going to be calledĀ — but Tenerife (SaaS) and Tenerife (on-prem).

Sorry, I should’ve been more clear. Let me rephrase with the name of the product in question.

D365 F&O for Business Edition will be a separate product than “Tenerife” (formerly Dynamics NAV). But both products are being built under the same platform.

So your Dynamics NAV will be whatever Tenerife is called. D365 will just be D365 (or until they change the name for it).

Basically, the only thing changing for NAV will be the name.

First of all – Thanks for helping to keep us informed by providing easy access to this webinar.

Secondly, the official NAV 2018 general availability announcement does a pretty good job explaining the products. The only topic not addressed – what these products will be called.Ā Ā

“As we continue to execute on our Dynamics 365 product strategy, we realize smaller businesses sometimes prefer an end-to-end business management solution, instead of an application for each individual line of business within their organization. In anĀ earlier post, Alysa Taylor outlined our plan to deliver a business management cloud solution to address this specific need via our partners. We’re executing on that commitment by expanding Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Business Edition to include the full breadth of Dynamics NAV. This next generation solution will be available to the market in the first half of 2018.
We will provide two distinct offerings for our partner ecosystem, enabling them to provide the right solution for their customers:
      1. A Microsoft Dynamics 365 cloud application, which enables partners participating in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) Program to deliver an end-to-end cloud business management solution to their small and mid-sized customers – across key business functions, including sales, financial management, project management, and operations.
      2. A business application platform for ISVs, which enables Microsoft ISV Cloud Embed program partners to build and offer vertical cloud solutions directly to customers.
We believe that building on the strength of Dynamics NAV with this new cloud offering will offer Microsoft’s partner ecosystem great opportunity to continue providing innovative solutions to companies that require a comprehensive end-to-end business management solution.”
