Whether as a consultant or as a D365 F&O client, it is a must to know the basics on how to navigate D365 F&O or if you are familiar in using Dynamics AX I am sure that you need a bit of adjustment to navigate D365 F&O. And I admit in experiencing that one.

But there is nothing to worry about as you are on the right article for you to make yourself familiar with the concepts of navigating D365 F&O.

So, let us start unboxing the Basic Navigation Concepts of D365 for Finance and Operations.

MICROSOFT DYNAMICS FOR FINANCE AND OPERATIONS – BASIC NAVIGATION CONCEPTS

Before a user can access Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, one should have the address link and user credentials (i.e. email address and password) to sign in. The user can also log in with a security code thru a short message service one-time pin or through GitHub. Once successful, the dashboard will be the default interface that a user can view.

Since as a default, it is the dashboard for the home page that you can view after you signed in to your account or into a client’s account, let me discuss with you the different ways how to navigate it.

Messages

The bell button is where you can see notifications or system messages (e.g. approvals, completed actions, error messages, etc.). Alternatively, you can access this using shortcut keys Ctrl+Shift+F7.

If you are not sure where you can locate a feature, setup, or parameters that you need then this pane is the tool that you should use.

Navigation pane

By clicking the hamburger menu, you can see four sections: Favorites, Recent, Workspaces, and Modules. Alternatively, you can access this using shortcut keys Alt+F1.

Calendar

This is used to change your session date. There are several reasons on why a user needs to update the session date and on my experienced session date is changed to simulate transaction for postdated checks.

Work items

This displays the work items assigned to a user.

Workspaces

This contains different daily used reports, frequently used data, and various transaction details to provide a user-friendly view to improve the efficiency of day-to-day tasks. This can also be personalized according to your need or preference.

Now that you know how to navigate the home page, I think it is about time to discuss how we can explore the Navigation pane page, Workspaces page and Forms navigation page of D365 F&O.
