Do you know why Power BI has 2 ‘SharePoint List’ type of connectors in Power Query?

If you open ‘Get Data’ and type ‘sharepoint list’, you will see 2 types of SharePoint List connectors availabe: “SharePoint List” and “SharePoint Online List”. The first one is able to connect to SharePoint lists both on-prem or online; while the second can only connect to SharePoint Online, not on-prem.

However, there are 2 implementations of “SharePoint Online List” connector, the 1.0 and 2.0, respectively. Those implementations are related to the version of “SharePoint Online” used where the List is hosted.

2.0 implementation, however, offers an interesting “Advanced Options” to retrieve data from a List, as it is possible to import all columns or default view columns.

Now if only Microsoft could WAKE UP and supply not the default view but the ability to choose a view, one crafted to have the fields needed and not the fields the users need for day to day work.

    Agreed!

Do you know about Ideas (powerbi.com)?

You can post your suggestions to Power BI CAT Team and they work on there. In fact, you can request support to your idea so others can vote and support it.

Microsoft has made a lot of updates based on the ideas portal

Thank you for your comment Elena!
