If you work with very large datasets, a very effective way to improve refresh and maintain good data model efficiency -especially if many data transformation is needed-, make sure that ‘query folding’ is activated.

To check if ‘query folding’ is active, just go to Power Query and right click on the ‘applied steps’ > ‘view native query. If this button is active, query folding is not activated. It can be activated at the ‘View’ tab.

Why ‘query folding’ is important:

• Data refresh will improve overall model efficiency
• Direct query and dual storage works efficient and better
• Incremental refresh will improve resource utilization
