Hi all,
I am creating a dashboard in PowerBI and I want to add maps.. I can add the map but the performance is really bad. Does someone has any experience with maps and performance?

Hi Sharda,I can agree that maps are slow.May I ask you some details? What’s your goal? What kind of data are you aiming to display? Which visual are you using? If you give us more info, maybe someone will try to find out a correct answer for your issue.Regards.Andrea (from Italy)——Original Message——

I am having major issues with maps as well.Ā We are trying to get to county level U.S. and below.Ā Only state level performs acceptably.——————————

Dan,
What sort of problem are you having trying to display county-level data? Which map are you using?
I’m having a lot of success working with county-level data with ArcGIS Maps from Esri. See an example below:

Hello Friends,
I would suggest using the ArcGIS maps to overcome this issue. I faced a problem like loading 0.1 million locations in the map (tried with both shape map andĀ common map). The map becomes slower and when a slicer value is chosen to filter data in the report, the map performs more slower.ĀHere is a sample ArcGIS map with my country data. Screenshot attached. It works fine for me.

Unfortunately I can’t use ARCGIS as we are an ISV and it is not supported in the older API.Ā We will be switching over to the new API soon so hopefully it is supported in the new API.Ā ĀI am dumbfounded that no map solution can recognize FIPS codes.Ā That is basic blocking and tackling. Tableau has supported FIPS codes for years and years.Ā Ā
Am I missing anything?

Shape Maps and Drilldown Choropleths both support FIPS. Shape Map visuals are limited to about 100 counties. Filled Maps support county and state names defined as a County Data Category.
Examples:
1. Filled Map
2. Drilldown Choropleth
3. Shape Map

How are you constructing your TopoJSON?——————————
