After doing some fairly basic stuff successfully in Power BI using a single data source as input, I am now being asked to compare field values between 2 data files, which is new to me. What I want to do is display a visual in table format that lists all projects where the budget value changed between the current and previous month (each month is a separate data source, with the same field names). Projects where the budget didn’t change would be excluded from the table. I assume I first need to match up the project IDs between the two data files, and then compare the budgets. I’m thinking I will need to add a column to the current month file’s query to show the calculated difference between the two budget values (both data files have the same column names), but really don’t know where to begin. I suspect I’m not the first person who has tried to do this. Appreciate any insight/guidance from those who have done something similar if not exact. Thanks!

One alternative method to linking the tables would be to use the Lookupvalue function. Ā If the project ID was not found then new budget is the same as old.

      ?Hello,
If the two datasets are the same and only difference is time periods, have you considered appending them in the Query Editor?
      Append and Merge OptionsĀ
After, you could just create a measure checking the change between periods of time for each project.
