Good morning.  I’m having an ongoing problem that I’m hoping someone can help with.  Randomly, I will get this error when trying to open my pbix file. “An error occurred while rendering the report. The Application must close.” Thinking it was due to the size of that particular pbix, I tired creating a new one and get the same message. 

After several attempts, PBI stops responding and I eventually get “Power BI file is already open” (Note: I’m the only user accessing the pbix). 

The only resolution we’ve found is to restart the remote server, which means I need to disrupt all out users and have them log out. 

Any suggestions would be helpful!

I attempted to try this, but when I try to clear the cache (or open the pbix) I’m getting an error that the file is in use. Since I’m the only one that accesses it, is there any way to force close it other than a reboot of the server?

You can close the Power BI Desktop process from Task Manager.

Also, if this is a server machine there might be a possiblity that you have multiple open session to the server & file is opened with your other session

Hi,

Please check the spike in CPU usage & RAM usage, provide more information about which PBI Desktop version & edition you are using.

Also if possible provide server configuration like RAM & CPU cores.

Possibly this issue seems to be with RAM / cache. Hopefully your system administrator will be able to debug this using trace.
