Window Size Mysteriously Changed

Hello, GPUGgers,I have a pesky problem that just came up in the last 2 days. The size of the window where we routinely add manual Journal Entries has changed from its normal width to a full-screen width. [And this is the Minimized version of the window.]
The previous (normal) width extended horizontally to just beyond the “Add Note” icon on the ribbon. Now it includes a whole lot of blank real estate.
When we try to resize the window, we are only able to resize the length (vertical) not the width (horizontal). I have tried rebooting, no impact.
We must be missing something pretty obvious. Can anyone recommend a fix?
Thanks,

?Hi
It looks like someone has altered the DEX.ini settings and/or the icon settings. Are you guys running GP on a terminal server or citrix environment? If so then this would have changed for everyone if someone messed with the settings. IF it is an alteration to the DEX.ini there are a couple of links I’d point you to.

Resetting GP desktop position and size with the Support Debugging Tool
Dynamicsgpblogster remove preview Resetting GP desktop position and size with the Support Debugging Tool Just recently I worked on an issue being experienced by several Microsoft Dynamics GP users in a Citrix environment. The users would report that, when double-clicking on the Microsoft Dynamics GP application launch icon, the program would “automatically minimize”. View this on Dynamicsgpblogster > It is also a possibility that the icon settings were changed under properties.

Hello @Jo deRuiter
I appreciate your willingness to participate in this puzzle. Thanks for the suggestions. A little more information:
1) No, we are not running on a terminal server or Citrix environment; I am running from a local install of Dynamics GP.2) This is only occurring on my installation of Dynamics GP — my colleague does not experience this on her installation. I have compared our dex.ini settings, and they are similar.
3) I am encountering this full-width problem ONLY on the one window, the Financial “Transactions Entry” window. (path: Financial > Transactions > Batches > select a named batch > select transactions button to get to transaction entry window). If I change the dex.ini settings, don’t those impact the main window? (The main window is not a problem.)
4) The primary problem is that the “maximized” version of the Transaction Entry window and the “minimized” version of the window are BOTH shown at full-screen width. Here is a screen shot of the Max version:
And here is a screen shot of the so-called Minimized version:
5) The resizing arrows available for the Transaction Entry window give me the option to resize it vertically (change the height) but do not give me the option to resize it horizontally (width).6) Here is an Example of another window — behaving “normally” – I can resize both horizontally & vertically:
7) Any idea how to have an impact on just the single “Transaction Entry” window? Or any ideas why just this one window is acting differently this week than it was last week? No one internally has changed the dex.ini settings — no one but me can get to them, and I didn’t make any such changes. Thanks for playing the puzzle.

Hi
If you have GP Power Tools – Administrator module installed, this is probably the Window Position Memory feature at work.
It can remember the position, size and state of any window in Microsoft Dynamics GP. By default the main transaction windows and maintenance windows are added into the system.
The Position, Size and state of the window is remembered when it is closed and re-applied when it is opened.
So…. don’t close the window while maximized if you don’t want it maximized when it next opens. Just restore it to its normal size, move and size it where you want and then close the window.
If you want to reset all window memories for a user, you can do it from the Additional menu of User Preferences, or the administrator can do it from the Window Position Memory window in GP Power Tools.
Please confirm is this is the issue and if clicking restore button before closing the window solves it.
Thanks
David?

HiIn your helpful post about GP Power Tools, you said:
The Position, Size and state of the window is remembered when it is closed and re-applied when it is opened.
So…. don’t close the window while maximized if you don’t want it maximized when it next opens. Just restore it to its normal size, move and size it where you want and then close the window.
See my reply to Jo deRuiter – items 4,5,6 & 7 — Maximized and Minimized were the same width. I had no tools that allowed me to resize the width. Therefore I couldn’t restore to normal size. But when I used GP Power Tools as you suggested — the “Reset Window Position Memory Settings” — the Transaction Entry window size has been resolved.
Hallelujah!! Thank you David and GPPT !!

Hi Maureen
I will double check the code. When the window is Maximized, it is meant to store the state of Maximized, but not the co-ordinates.
It sounds like you had Maximized co-ordinates stored.

Hi
I have checked the code and retested and I was unable to get the Window Position Memory code to store the co-ordinates when Maximized. It is behaving as it is supposed to.
So that when you restore the window, it goes back to the previously saved settings.
I don’t know how you managed to get it to save with the incorrect settings, at least the reset option will fix it.
David??
