      ?

Last year was our first year filing W2’s electronically with the state of Michigan, and it was very challenging. We utilized the option to upload via the Michigan website last year, but producing a file to upload was very time-consuming.Ā  We are considering other options this year, including the W2 Electronic Filing option in GP. Because there is very little information regarding file requirements for Michigan (other than the file types must be .pdf, .rar or .zip.), we are looking for some insight from others who have more experience. Does anyone know if the files produced from the W2 Electronic Filing window in GP is an acceptable format for the state of Michigan?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I don’t know about Michigan but WI requires e-filing as well.Ā  I signed up for the IRS FIRE program (electronic submission to IRS & shares with cooperating states).Ā  I’m going to be using CheckMark.com to create the e-1099s (program can do W-2s as well).Ā  You can download a free demo, super straight forward and inexpensive (~$200).Ā  I’ll export an excel 1099 report from GP and then import it into CheckMark.Ā  This will be my first time using this program but fingers crossed it’s as easy as it seems.

      Vicki,

Michigan accepts the Federal EFW2 file format produced by GP with one change.Ā  The Code RS State Record field is optional for the Federal submission but is required for Michigan.Ā  You can find the file requirements on form 447.Ā  Here is the link to the form: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/447_web_fill_102204_106911_7.pdf
