We set up a user but she is not able to print from GP. There wasn’t another user to “copy” as this is a unique role. What do we need to provide in order to allow printing? She will be working in the financial module but not any of the other modules.

      Thank you,

      Hi

It really depends on the EXACT issue.

Is she getting an error message?  If so, please share the message with us.

If she is printing and you are getting no errors then it may be more of a computer to printer issue and not a GP issue.

Let us know the exact process she is taking and any errors she is getting and we should be able to hone in on the resolution.?

Does your user have GP installed on her PC, or is it run from Citrix or Terminal Services?
Either way, test printing from another program like Word or Excel. If it is a remote connection like TS (that server’s print drivers are used), start a shared copy of Word to test printing.

If you believe it is a GP security issue, have her log onto her machine, Start GP, then have your GP Admin sign into her GP instance with their login. Test printing now. If is still doesn’t work, it is not GP but a Windows, Terminal Services, or Citrix issue.

As a last note if you have it, there are cool Security features in GP Power Tools to help you build out unique GP Security Roles and troubleshoot missing pieces.

GP is installed on her PC. She can print from other programs. I was able to sign on to GP on her machine and print. Which is what leads me to believe there must be a “print” function we are missing.
Thank you for your help. We will continue to look.

      Charlotte,
Could it be that the other user you copied the security from was also assigned some ‘Named Printer’ instances in GP ? that could be a problem too, as this might not be copied over to the new user profile or cause issues.
As mentioned, GP PowerTools has a very useful function called security profiler which you can start before doing anything with a user in GP and would tell you what kind of resources that user is trying to access (and might silently get denied for whatever reason).
The other cool function ?of GPPT is that security role & task builder that allows to create new tasks & roles from scratch, tailored to the user’s duty in GP.
If you’ve never heard about GPPT, I strongly suggest you take a look at it and ask your IT to install it on your GP instance (and every single GP client).

. I appreciate the response. Is GP Power Tools an add on feature that is additional cost? I believe I have seen this in several postings on the site. I truly believe it is something with either her profile or her GP instance as I added a test user in our test environment with the exact roles and it works as expected. Our IT team is going to delete the user and start fresh this evening.

You guys all rock! thanks again.

      Charlotte,
Yes, there are some costs added to purchase the GPPT subscription (annual basis), but you can have it installed and fully functional for free with a 30-days trial key that can be activated within the tool once installed.
Please update this thread to find out after the user account was re-created in GP.
