Dear Collaborators,I am thankful for everyone who’s told me that they enjoy my posts because I make them smile. Even though I really don’t know GP very well — except for a very few things — this Forum has been a place I can turn to for help, insight, encouragement, enthusiasm, and acceptance. I’m accepted and recognized for the contributions I’ve made to this community, and for that I’m very thankful.
Thanksgiving marks the end of the 6th year that I’ve been involved with GP. I worked in the same office as the guy who did the most at my last company to shepherd the installation and implementation of GP 2013. He had his organizational act together, even though it wasn’t what he really wanted to do. We were both part of the IT department, and he had more project management experience; but he wanted to do SharePoint development. He had to go elsewhere to be able to do that. Then I was tossed the hot potato of being GP Administrator.
I don’t mind a challenge, but as I’ve said many times, IANAANDIPOOT (I Am Not An Accountant Nor Do I Play One On TV). Fortunately, the first thing I was asked to do was to create a complex Income Statement in Management Reporter. Also fortunately, I’m a SQL guy. Management Reporter made sense to me. And I had absolutely outstanding help from in my early attempts at learning.? There is hardly a more generous guy in the country than Derek.
In all of this scrambling to learn, I knew that there had to be an online forum for questions and answers. Our Partner at the time, Heartland Business Systems, recommended that our company join GPUG. That made all the difference to me. I had benefited from online forums for years, going back to bulletin boards and CompuServe. Here was a tight-knit community of GP users who loved helping others. How could I notĀ appreciate that??
GPUG Summit in St. Louis in 2014 was my first. I was asked by herself to moderate a discussion about EDI solutions… so I was a speaker right away. Afterwards I had direct contacts with Ā about Word templates, Ā about Dexterity training, and Ā about GP Power Tools. In 2015 I was named a GPUG All Star along with David on my 63rd birthday. Holy cow. And it was you GPUGgers who voted for me!
??I won’t go any further through my GPUG history. This is all just to say that GPUG and all the amazing people I’ve met here have had a great and lasting influence on me. And for that I am very, very thankful.
Sincerely,

,I remember talking with at Summit in 2015 about a “Draft Mariano” movement to get you voted in as a GPUG All Star. It took a few years, but you made it!??

,Whatever those “super powers” are that I seem to have in that picture you made… I’m not at all sure I want to keep wearing that spandex suit!
It’s people like you that keep GPUG fun for me!
Regards,??
