I have a bit of a brain teaser. We ran our GP environment through a test run of upgrading to GP2016 R2. I am noticing something very strange, the structure of UPR70500 is not being changed.

Background, I ran our company through the update process just fine, no issues. I then created a brand new company. When I compare the structure of UPR70500 in the company that was updated versus the fresh version, the structure differs. It appears that theĀ EACCNBR_5-EACCNBR_10 & STTACNUM_6-STTACNUM_10 columns where dropped and the rest of the EACC/STTAC columns where shortened (max length reduced).

Is this normal for a table structure change? I would assume that GP realizes that the structure has become smaller (number of columns & column sizes) and therefore it doesn’t need to actually change the table structure?

      Matthew,

I know Microsoft will change table structures between different versions of GP, but usually that is adding new columns for new functionality. Ā I haven’t seen table structures shortened before, so I’m not sure how GP would know how to handle this.

In this specific situation I believe that table is storing default report options. Ā Do you know if you have changed the Account Structure since the initial GP installation? Ā My version of GP 2016 R2 has five of each of those columns, each with a max length of eleven characters. Ā When I installed GP I set it up to have a max of five Account Segments, each segment with a max eleven characters, so that makes sense. Ā If GP in your environment was changed from ten segments to five, and the max characters shortened in each that might be the cause.

Interested to hear if that was in fact the case in your case.

Good catch, that flew right by me. Yes we did correct the account structure, in the new GP company.
