I have created a couple of Smartlist reports for financial account summary and account detail data that sort by debit amount for expenses and credit amount for revenue.Ā  However when the report completes it initially sorts as wanted then immediately flashes to a different sort.Ā  I have attached the screen images for the sort definition and the result that is out-of-order.

How can I fix this.Ā  It is probably simple.Ā  Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

      Dan

      Its not you Daniel,
That “Order By” window in Smartlist Search has been buggy for years.
Just skip it and let the users sort the results any way they want by clicking the column heading.

I tested and I got the same result. I know setting the sort order usually works…but it definitely isn’t for this (Account Transactions) report. I am curious if anyone has any ideas…maybe ??

By default, it’s trying to apply the SL sort to JE (or maybe another field).Ā  Change the column heading sort (rather than from the search window) to descending by credit amount, then modify your favorite (or create a new one).Ā  It should stick then.Ā  At least it does for me.

Sorry for the delayed response on this.

SmartList will also sort the data being displayed by the first column by default.Ā  You can change the sort as you have it displayed, but then when you rerun it, it will automatically sort by the first column again.

The “Select Order By” option is actually going to change how it is going to retrieve the data from SQL.Ā  It adds a sort to the SQL Script that is running.Ā  This way it changes the data returned if you aren’t returning all the data.Ā  Here is an older blog post on it for more reference.

      https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/archive/2012/10/18/what-does-the-order-by-option-in-smartlist-do

So, to get it to sort like you want, you will have to change the order of the columns being displayed to put the one you want first.

      Thanks,
      Nicole
