Sales Orders w/Manufacturing – items backordered
Posted by Teresa Waters on May 30, 2019 at 1:15 pm-
?We are slowly implementing the manufacturing module and are at the point where we are having the sales orders drive the manufacturing orders by having the products set up with Make to Order – Silent.Ā It is really nice to have the SO & MO’s linked so production knows who they are making the orders for.Ā To do this the SO needs to be entered with the quantities in back order, which is fine until we need to change and order and then it says that we don’t have administrative privileges to do this.Ā It also will not let us cancel/void and order.Ā When we were working with things in test, I thought there was warnings that popped up when we wanted to do these things, but let us do them.Ā We are getting stopped in our tracks now.Ā Even I can’t do it and I’m a power user.Ā
So has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Is there a way for sales to change the order and have it flow to the open MO without a bunch of extra steps?
Similarly I’ve had quantities stuck in back order when we are invoicing and can’t get them out.Ā I like the MO/SO link and don’t want to break it each timeĀ I do something – and for things that have moved to invoicing – it doesn’t free it up anyway. Thanks!

Hi Teresa –Ā the only way to change the quantity is to remove the link, adjust your quantities on both the sales order and the manufacturing order then recreate your link.
The link between the sales orders and manufacturing orders really is the key to your issues, the link makes it impossible to make changes to either unless it is removed and re-established.?

Hi Teresa,
I understand your problem and I’m a user of the manufacturing orders. I see some other people have requested for you to have a shared conference, if that doesn’t work, i would be happy to have one with you to help you out.
Thanks,
Doug

I’ve ran into some of these problems too.
If you do any changes to quantities or dates, just remember to update in the MO Entry window as well (dates, quantity, picklists, scheduling, etc.)…I’ve found you don’t have to unlink to make changes. ?If you use Willoware, unlinking gets MUCH easier too when you do need to cancel/void something and it makes it smoother to transition between the modules. As for things getting stuck and not letting you move them, even if you had done an MO receipt for the goods, there is an odd set-up window in manufacturing that is extra security to keep you from being able to manually move items. This security setting is found underĀ Manufacturing – Setup – System Defaults – Process Security, then you select the Security Set of “BOM Update” or “Quantity Update”.
We’re “kind of local” to you and have been running GP manufacturing a few years…mostly self-taught. If you have any questions, I’d be glad to share any experiences we’ve had and what has worked for us.

??, YEAH!!Ā Our security sets were named differently, but picking one worked so we can change the orders.Ā The next step will be to find out how to add someone to the security group.Ā Slow, but sure we will get this GP-MFG going.Ā If I was closer I’d come to a chapter meeting, but Milwaukee is 6 hours away.
Have a good weekend!——————————
